North Canyon principal honored with top accolade

Elaine Jacobs, North Canyon Principal

Elaine Jacobs, Principal of North Canyon High School is one of eight principals statewide to have been named as a 2015 Rodel Exemplary Principal.

The Finalists – from schools in high-need communities – were selected for their demonstrated ability to inspire their staff to contribute to school-wide success and the development of a campus that is high achieving, safe, orderly and welcoming.

Currently in her fourth year as principal of North Canyon High School, Elaine has been in public education for 35 years including 18 as a classroom teacher, three-and-a-half years as a high school counselor, four years as a middle school assistant principal, seven years as a middle school principal, and now a high school principal. She currently serves as president of the district principals organization, serving on the Teacher Evaluation Committee, the Hard-to-Fill Committee, the Employee Support Professional (ESP) Professional Growth Committee as well as being a current member of the Beat the Odds program.

In a statement to Rodel, Elaine explained her passion for leadership:

"I loved being a teacher as well as a counselor and never left those positions for money or accolades. Being a principal allows me the opportunity to create programs that help students be successful".

The Rodel Exemplary Principal Initiative, developed by Rodel in partnership with Social Venture Partners of Arizona, recognizes outstanding school principals and promotes a pipeline of highly skilled school leaders for Arizona's high-need schools.

Each cohort of Exemplary Principals receives $1,500 and will mentor aspiring principals for two years.
