Response to Intervention (RTI) is a multi-tier approach to the early identification and support of students with learning and behavior needs. At EMPS, we are considered a model RTI school by the Arizona State Department of Education. As such, we implement the program with fidelity. The RTI process begins with high-quality instruction and screening of all students in the classroom setting. Students are then provided three levels of intervention, based on their needs:
Tier 1 - High-quality classroom instruction, screening, and whole group interventions. Tier 2 - Targeted interventions with small group instruction. Tier 3 - Intensive intervention with a very small group which is guided be either the classroom teacher or an Intervention Specialist
All students are monitored for progress on a regular basis and the Tier groups are fluid based on the results of the monitoring. This allows for the most appropriate level of intervention for each student.
