Mr Gary CallahanI would like to say that I am extremely excited to begin another year as Vista Verde Middle School’s Assistant Principal. It is my intent on making your child’s two years here as enjoyable and productive as possible. My number 1 job at VVMS is student safety. If there is anything that I can do, please do not hesitate to call, come in, or email me. Working together will help ensure a successful middle school experience.

A little about myself ….

I grew up in Connecticut and moved to Arizona in 1978. I am a proud product of the Paradise Valley Unified School District having graduated from Desert Shadows Middle School ('79), and Horizon High School ('83). It was then off to Arizona State University for an undergraduate degree in Business (’87). It wasn’t until after college that I found my passion for teaching. I obtained my certificate through Ottawa University and my Masters in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. My teaching career began at my Alma Mater, DSMS. There I taught Social Studies, PE, and Math. I coached basketball and football, and was the school’s Athletic Director. My coaching experience also includes football and basketball at Horizon High School. I am a proud father of 4 boys; all attended Campo Bello ES, VVMS, and Paradise Valley High School.

There are some things that will help your son or daughter achieve success: daily attendance, a filled-out planner, and parent involvement. The law requires coming to school and when students miss school, he or she misses instruction. We equip each student with a planner to write down assignments and homework. Parents can monitor grades and assignments by logging in to Infinite Campus, our student management system. Statistics show that high levels of parent involvement result in higher levels of achievement. We have multiple opportunities for parents to help out here at VVMS.

I look forward to working together with you and your child!
