About Our Digital Photography Program
The Digital Photography program will provide your child with the essential skills needed to work in the field of photography. We will explore many techniques in the area of photography. What is make of the composition? What type of lighting is best? What are the functions of a camera? How to operate different types of camera? How to utilize Adobe Photoshop editing tools? These are all questions that will be answered throughout the course of the program. Students will have many opportunities to gain hands-on experience. If your child wants to have fun while learning real-life skills in the area of digital photography, then this is the program is for them.
Mindi Cooper has been Career and Technical Education (CTE) instructor at Shadow Mountain High School since 2007. She has a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a Master's degree in Educational Leadership/Principalship. Ms. Cooper has been running the Photography Program for 13 years at Shadow Mountain High School. She is the advisor for SkillsUSA Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) Photo Club, which is a national student organization for the Digital Photography Program.
Students who are enrolled into the visual arts program will acquire skills that will transfer into the student's everyday life. Students will continue to build and enhance many of these skills, enabling them to effectively communicate with others verbally as well as through written forms of communication. The students will begin to take on leadership roles and over seeing and management of projects and much more!

Digital Photography Course Plan
Digital photography is designed for first year students who have an interest in Photography. Students will develop the basic composition, lighting, and camera operation skills using digital cameras. Student will be introduced and become familiar with the editing software Adobe Photoshop. By the end of the course, students will produce a completed portfolio on their year's work. The focus areas of this course will be on photo journalism, portraits, action photography, fashion, and more.
This course will explore advanced topics and methods in digital photography. Students will become more familiar with the advanced editing tools of Adobe Photoshop editing software. Additionally, students will explore the printing and design to produce advanced skills Adobe Photoshop projects. Students will also learn how to create advance student portfolios they will use to showcase their work.
Advanced photography is designed for the third year students. The students will focus on creative expression of their individual interests. Students will develop leadership and community service skills through participation of activities that happen throughout the school year. In addition students will have the opportunity to meet community photographers that are presently working in the field. Photographers will share their knowledge and experiences with students. Student's will present their work through their portfolio.
This course is for fourth year students who have advanced to independent thinking. The course is self-led the student decide on their creative output. Student will express themselves through their work they produce. Additionally student's will have the opportunity to meet and interview photographers with their same style of photography. Student's will present their work through their portfolio.
