Sandpiper Elementary School Principal's Welcome

Dear Sandpiper Parents and Students:

I am thrilled and honored to serve as your Principal for the upcoming school year. It is with great pride that I join the team of highly skilled educators currently serving the Sandpiper community. I am committed to continuing the legacy of excellence in education that you have become accustomed to at Sandpiper.

I come to you with a wealth of experience, having served in the field of education since 1980! I began my career in Nebraska, initially teaching in a middle school special education classroom. When I finished that first assignment, I decided I did not want to face any more Nebraska winters and would move somewhere WARM, so I packed up and moved to Arizona. I had no idea just how WARM it could be, but have made this my home and can't imagine living anywhere else! Since arriving here, I have taught preschool through grade 12. When my oldest son was small, I owned and operated a preschool, with 130 students ages 2 to 5. Once he was old enough to attend school, I began working in the Arizona public school system. I joined the Paradise Valley school district in 1990, and have served this district in many capacities. I have taught both regular education and special education, and have held various leadership positions, including serving as Assistant Principal at both Whispering Wind Academy and Roadrunner School. I also served as Coordinator of the Discovery Program. Coincidentally, I ran the summer school program at Sandpiper several years ago! I enjoyed working with this community and am excited to be back!

I embrace the philosophy of educating the “whole” child, where there is an expectation of high standards for academic growth, balanced with encouragement for strong character development and a sense of social awareness for the community. The Sandpiper signature programs, including Spanish Immersion and Character Education, will continue to be implemented with fidelity. This year we will also continue with the Be Kind movement.

Again, I want to thank you for the opportunity to serve as your Principal and I look forward to working with you as we consider the individual needs of your children. Please stop by to say hello, and don't ever hesitate to come to me if you have questions, comments or concerns!
