Provide a framework of professional learning designed by stakeholders to achieve organizational excellence.

School Strategies

  • Gather baseline data school wide on teacher knowledge relating to Restorative Practices

    • Offered a professional development at the beginning of the year to faculty to ensure Restorative Practice implementation.

    • Ongoing professional development offered through the district and school

    • R3 (Restorative Practices: Review, Reflect, Return) Newsletter shared with staff monthly to share data and information regarding the implementation of restorative justice practices.

    • Survey the staff on their understanding of restorative practices and professional development effectiveness.

  • Increase knowledge of Security Guards on handling school situations.

    • Last year it was approved for a former police officer and current NCHS Security Guard, to provide information for fellow security guards on issues of mutual concern.

    • This year we are going to review past training and design new professional development on relationships, customer service and a deeper look at real life scenarios.  We will review what ASRS codes mean to schools in terms of trespassing, disrupting the school environment, torte laws, civil liability, and criminal law.

    • The plan for this year is to continue to talk about on-site scenarios with issues involving security/security, security/student, teacher/student, and teacher/teacher.

  • Increase staff knowledge of AVID school wide strategies
    • Assess where each staff member feels he/she is on key strategies required for Critical Reading, Cornell Notes, and WICOR strategies

    • PD was offered to each staff member expanding their knowledge and comfort level with Cornell Notes, Critical Reading Strategies, and the use of WICOR in their classrooms.

      • Teachers new to North Canyon will continue to be supported by the AVID Coordinator on additional training if needed.

    • All members of the Administrative Team attended AVID training this summer.

    • Refer struggling students to After the Bell and Academic Support

      • As assistant principals meet with students for various reasons, they review grades and attendance and may encourage students and families to attend academic support and/or After the Bell.

Learning Goal Objective 2

Develop various pathways and procedures to enable each student to have access to have authentic, real-world learning experiences across the curriculum and grade span.

School Strategies

  • Increase the knowledge of special education students through “environmental and work services” and increase opportunities for a variety of real-world learning field trips.

  • Continue with Business Advisory forums to educate interested students in career choices

  • Hold mock interview sessions with Business Advisory members to give students opportunities to practice real-world skills.

  • Continue our Interdisciplinary program between Geometry, Autos, Welding, and Woods student to understand real world applications of math

    • The following projects have been and will be completed: 3-dimensional prototype project, staircase prototype project, architectural prototype project, paper airplane launch project

  • Implement year two of our Sports Medicine Program that will include work with an on-site athletic trainer and the potential for certification.

  • We are implementing a plan to increase awareness of opportunities in dual enrollment.

  • During Parent Teacher Conferences all senior families will receive support on filling out their child’s FAFSA application.

  • Implement year one of MYP program school wide. Students will also have an opportunity to take an IB course with no requirement to enter into the IB Diploma Program.

Learning Goal Objective 3

Provide a rigorous Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum (GVC) through focused professional development, effective differentiated instruction, and strategic assessments.

School Strategies

  • Utilize AVID tutorology strategies, called “Collaborative Study Groups” in math classes as well as all AVID classes.

  • Continue to use “School City” for assessments school wide.

  • Utilize Revision Assistant to assist with our writing curriculum.
