Please Read This Important Message from Our Superintendent (Updated March 30)
Monday, March 30, 2020
Dear PVSchools Family:
As you are aware, over spring break, PVSchools announced schools would be closed indefinitely. This morning, Governor Doug Ducey and Superintendent of Public Instruction Kathy Hoffman announced the closure of all Arizona schools through the end of the school year. While this is disappointing for all of us, it is a necessary step in stopping the spread of COVID-19.
There are a few updates I would like to provide:
Distance learning begins this week and will continue until the end of the school year. Students and families will receive information directly from their teacher or school. The expectations regarding grading shared on Friday will continue through the end of the year. Details can be found at distancing.pvschools.net.
In addition to the locations to pick up printed educational resources for students who may not be able to participate in online learning, packets can now be printed from home. Visit distancing.pvschools.net to print the packets or to find details regarding the pick-up locations.
Principals will be contacting parents/guardians with dates, times, and details to pick-up a computer device if your child is still in need of one.
The Arizona State Board of Education is in the process of developing flexible requirements regarding graduation. We anticipate to know more in the coming days and will share the details once the requirements are adopted.
All events such as performances, concerts, and festival sports for the duration of the school year are canceled. The Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) announced that high school sports at all levels are canceled for the remainder of the school year, including the spring season and championships.
We know graduation ceremonies are an important milestone for our students, and we are examining potential solutions while keeping health and safety in the forefront.
Our school buildings remain closed. Principals will be communicating dates and times for students to pick-up remaining belongings from campus before the end of the year.
We will follow up regarding the many remaining questions regarding the end of the year in the coming days.
Please continue to check your email for communication from your student’s school and our Monday, Wednesday, and Friday communications. Remember to also visit the district’s COVID-19 webpage for information.
Thank you for your continued partnership in helping us keep our school community safe and healthy.
