About the Principal
I am the proud principal of Mercury Mine Elementary School, a beautiful and unique school nestled between the peaks of Dreamy Draw Park, near U.S. 51 in a quiet, close-knit neighborhood community. It was built in 1976 and has many unique features, including gardens, a gymnasium with a rock wall, a desert area complete with an amphitheater, a couple of outdoor classrooms, plus all of the indoor learning spaces.
I began teaching at Mercury Mine in 1993. I taught fourth and fifth grade for eight years while also earning a master’s of educational administration. I became the principal in 2001. It has been a joy to come to school each day and work with a very dedicated and talented staff, outstanding students, parents, relatives and neighbors. There has been a long-standing tradition of positive collaboration with all stakeholders that has resulted in the creation of a safe and amazing learning community for our children at Mercury Mine.
We believe elementary school is a time to let students experience learning in all subjects, at varying levels and in a variety of ways. It is the time to expose students to as many experiences as possible so they have the chance to explore and learn about themselves and the world. We have chosen to teach Core Knowledge curriculum and strongly believe the arts should be integrated into every subject. We believe in teaching the whole child.
Helping young children love learning is an honor and an obligation I take seriously. Paradise Valley Unified School District and Mercury Mine are near and dear to my heart. My husband and I have raised three wonderful girls who are grown and now have families of their own, each one a Paradise Valley graduate. My grandchildren now attend Mercury Mine.
Every day is an adventure that I look forward to experiencing. I enjoy hiking, reading, traveling and spending time with my family, especially my grandchildren.
