Mr. Charles O'Connor - I was born and raised in Springerville/Eagar, AZ and graduated from Round Valley High School. I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Grand Canyon University and I received my Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. I started my teaching career in the Paradise Valley Unified School District in 1998 at Echo Mountain Primary School. I have been a coach at Paradise Valley High School, Pinnacle High School, and the best of the best Horizon High School. My administrative career began as an Assistant Principal at Echo Mountain Intermediate, I came to Horizon as the Attendance Dean and now I am currently an Assistant Principal. I so am proud to be a Husky!
Ms. Shelley Strohfus - I have been part of the Paradise Valley School district most of my life. I attended North Ranch Elementary, Desert Shadows Middle School, and graduated from Horizon High School. I received my BS in Business Management from the University of South Carolina at Aiken and my M.Ed in Educational Leadership from Boise State University. I taught in Phoenix Union High School District and Boise (ID) School District prior to coming back to Horizon. I started at Horizon as the Attendance Dean and now Assistant Principal. I grew up in this neighborhood, love this community and this school. I'm proud to be part of Husky Nation!
As an alumnus of Desert Shadows and Horizon as well as a former classroom teacher at Horizon, it is great to be back in Husky Nation. After graduating from the University of Indianapolis with a BS in Sports Administration followed by a BA in Secondary Education with a Masters in Curriculum in Instruction from the University of Phoenix, I spent multiple years in both ESL based immersion classrooms and science classrooms in the Dysart Unified District. From there, I came to Horizon to teach in the science department for 4 years before heading to Fountain Hills Middle School in 2018-2019 as the Dean of Students. I have additional advanced degrees in Educational Leadership and in Biology (with publication in Down Syndrome and Perceived Exertion through exercise research). I am so happy to be “home” at Horizon because once a Husky, always a Husky.
