It is truly my pleasure to serve PVUSD and your kids as the Assistant Principal of Explorer Middle School. The 2019-2020 school year will be my fourth school year at Explorer. Prior to that, I taught English and was the Dean of Students at Pinnacle High School.
I am originally from Michigan, born and raised, and spent the majority of my adult life in the City of Grand Rapids. I attended Grand Rapids Community College for Criminal Justice / Law Enforcement, and, in my first career, spent eight years with Grand Rapids Police Department as an intern, patrol officer and detective. During my years at the police department I completed a BA in English Literature from Aquinas College. It was during my years as a detective (especially while working juvenile crimes) and time in my night classes at Aquinas College that steered me to the idea of teaching -- a new way to work with and reach kids, preparing them for the journey of life.
It was after my wife and I moved to the Phoenix area in 2009 for better weather and adventure that I began my career in education, teaching in the East Valley and Scottsdale before I was fortunate enough to be hired as an English teacher at Pinnacle High School for our wonderful district. After completing my Master’s degree, I spent the 2015-2016 school year in an administrative role at Pinnacle as the Dean of Students prior to moving to Explorer.
I have a deep love for all things sports, can’t put down a good book, and love to be outdoors -- hiking and camping as much as my schedule allows. With a family first motto, I spend as much time as possible making memories with my wife and our two kids.
