Start-of-Year Virtual Learning
In order to best support students and families, we have created an Information Technology resource site: Visit the new PV Assist website.
Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) are collectively considered the core of Explorer’s 7th grade science curriculum. In the 8th grade, additional courses are provided in Physics, Chemistry, Cells and Genetics and Animal Diversity, Adaptations and Behavior.
Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) are collectively considered the core of Explorer’s science curriculum. Students use scientific processes: questioning, planning and conducting investigations, using appropriate tools and techniques to gather data, thinking critically and logically, and communicating results. The 7th grade science curriculum consists of two main areas of focus: Earth and space sciences, and also life sciences. Earth and Space Science provides the foundation for students to develop an understanding of the Earth, its history, composition, and formative processes. Life Science expands students’ biological understanding of life by focusing on the characteristics of living things, and how organisms and populations change over time in terms of biological adaptation. This understanding includes the relationship of structures to their functions and life cycles, interrelationships of energy in living organisms, and the interactions of living organisms with their environment.
Inquiry is the process that establishes the basis for the students learning in science. In Physics students will discover how Newton’s Laws explain objects’ movements and how they interact with one another. In Chemistry students will learn how the Periodic Table of Elements was created and understand its systematic organization. Elements, compounds, and mixtures will be classified and described. In Cells and genetics unit students will learn how mitosis and meiosis differ and the importance of each in all living things. In our last unit Animal diversity, adaptations, and behavior students will explore the diversity of all living things and how adaptations and behaviors help organisms survive in the ever changing world.
