Greetings Desert Shadows Elementary families,

My name is Bryan Cunningham, and I’m honored and privileged to become the new principal here at Desert Shadows Elementary School. I’m looking forward to becoming an active part of this amazing community and working with our fabulous PTA and families to learn about what you love at Desert Shadows!

I'm originally from the suburbs of Chicago and my wife, Emily, is also an educator in PVUSD. We have two beautiful one year old twin girls, Hazel and Grace, who will be joining the Little Pioneers program this year. This will be my twelfth year in education and my fifth year in PVUSD, previously working at Palomino Primary School and Liberty Elementary School. I’ve also worked in the Balsz School District in Phoenix and the Pinon Unified School District within the Navajo Nation. I received my Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from Indiana University and my Master’s in Educational Leadership from Arizona State University. Furthermore, I’m a National Board Certified Teacher which drives my philosophy of providing collaborative and purposeful instruction that meets the needs of each individual child. There’s nothing I enjoy more than walking into our classrooms and seeing students engaged and learning in a safe and positive environment created by our wonderful Desert Shadows staff.

The Desert Shadows staff and I will be continuing to expand our implementation of our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) focus with an emphasis on Project Based Learning through collaborative, engaging, and rigorous instruction within our classrooms. We will also continue to be a leader in our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework, with our JAWS program emphasizing Just Be Nice, Act Responsibly, Wise Choices, Safety First. All of this will ensure that we create a welcoming environment that focuses on the whole child and provides students with real-world experiences to help cultivate world-class thinkers.

You have my commitment in always doing what is best for children, and I’m looking forward to a JAWSome year here at Desert Shadows Elementary School!
