From the desk of Copper Canyon Elementary School Principal Ann Furnish
Welcome to Copper Canyon!
Whether you are bringing your first kindergartner to school for the first time, or you are sailing along with your final sixth grader before jumping into middle school, Copper Canyon is a great place to call home during these exciting years!
Copper Canyon offers a wide array of opportunities for each child to find a place to grow academically, socially, and emotionally. I believe that it is our professional responsibility as educators to provide children engaging, academic lessons from which to learn. However, we need to feel safe and secure in our surroundings for our minds to be open to accepting new information. It is for this reason that I also believe it is our responsibility to ensure that the learning environment provides opportunities for social and emotional growth while keeping students safe and having fun. I will work together with you to be certain that your child’s needs are being met in the best ways possible throughout your experience at CCES.
As parents, we naturally want to offer some independence as our children grow a bit older; however as you do so, I would like to encourage you to continue to stay involved in your child’s school experience guiding them along the way. Simple, open communication with your child is critical. Although some stages of childhood may often give outward indications that they do not want to communicate, they truly want and need you to listen and hear everything they are sharing with you. Please be present in their learning, their social life, and most importantly for their emotional well-being.
I look forward to meeting you and your child very soon, and want to stay connected with you throughout the school year. If you would like to visit about something specific or share a success or concern, I invite you to email, call, or make an appointment to visit in person.
It’s great to be Copper Canyon Coyote!
