Update on PVSchools’ District Leadership

Update on PVSchools’ District Leadership

PVSchools Community,

This letter is to provide you an update on district leadership changes approved by the Governing Board at a Special Meeting held last night.

On September 30, 2025, the Paradise Valley Unified School District Governing Board unanimously voted to appoint Dr. Dan Courson as the acting superintendent for PVSchools. This decision followed a unanimous vote by the Board to place Superintendent Dr. C. Todd Cummings on paid administrative leave. This action was taken after a special meeting on Monday, where the Board met in Executive Session to discuss and consult with an attorney regarding Dr. Cummings’ employment agreement, review complaint(s) received, and related employment matters.

PVSchools is aware that there may be questions surrounding this change. However, because much of this has taken place in Executive Session, where items discussed are legally protected and confidential, the information that can be shared is limited. The District recognizes that continued communication during this time is vital, and remains committed to ensuring all publicly available information released is verified and accurate.

Thank you for your understanding, patience, and continued support during this transition.

Upon the Governing Board vote last night, Dr. Dan Courson has assumed the role of acting superintendent. Dr. Courson currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Leadership and is the District's Title IX coordinator. In his role as assistant superintendent, he oversees all secondary principals for the District, including the departments of Athletics, Career and Technical Education, and Student Services (Secondary).

Before his current position, he served as the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction Director of Leadership in the Deer Valley Unified School District, principal of Horizon High School, and as a middle school principal in a neighboring district. Dr. Courson began his career as a high school English and math teacher before moving into leadership roles.

Dr. Courson looks forward to continuing to collaborate with teachers, staff, community members, parents, and most importantly, students. The continued success of PVSchools is his number one priority, and he is grateful for the community’s support.
