Remember: Report, Don’t Repost.

Remember: Report, Don’t Repost.

See an online threat? Report it, don’t repost it.

During the fall and spring, it's common for school districts to see an uptick in social media threats and hoaxes. PVSchools recognizes that social media threats—regardless of intent—have significant and detrimental effects, including disruptions to learning, increased absenteeism, a strain on resources, and a psychological impact that stirs up anxiety and fear.

Social media has been dubbed “the new bathroom wall in schools,” but with a much wider reach. When threats or hoaxes surface, the posts and misinformation can spread rapidly. That is why PVSchools wants to remind students the importance of reporting, and not reposting. Ultimately, the district wants to empower students to be proactive heroes in their school and community. Being a hero doesn't require superpowers; it means stopping to think before posting, rejecting the "snitch" mentality, and choosing to report concerning behavior to a trusted adult rather than spreading misinformation. By being observant, brave, and responsible, every student and parent can help maintain a safe, positive, and supportive environment where everyone feels valued.

PVSchools wants to remind students, parents, and guardians that every reported threat is taken seriously and investigated thoroughly in close coordination with the Phoenix and Scottsdale Police Departments. The district remains committed to transparent, timely communication so families can stay informed and calm while officials handle the situation.
