PVSpotlight: Horizon Choirs

PVSpotlight: Horizon Choirs

PVSchools is home to some of the most prestigious, influential, and beautifully crafted musical arts programs in the state. Our students and alumni are, bar none, incredibly talented performers who often make a name for themselves during their tenure in PVSchools. It’s impressive to see the number of students who have garnered musical success on their journey of excellence and beyond.

Taking center stage this month is the Horizon High School choir – whose reputation precedes them! For almost forty years the Huskies have showcased their many musical talents with their most impactful programs, Broadway Under the Stars and Pop Show, creating quite a legacy. From the Show Divas to the Decibels, and the Mixed Ensembles to the Towne Criers, the Husky choir has serenaded students and families for generations.

In fact, Horizon’s choir program has been so successful that it proudly boasts alumni who have continued their fine arts careers after graduation, including Max Adler, who starred in Glee, Sully, and The Flash, and Rachel Redleaf, who starred as Mama Cass in the 2019 film Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

Other Horizon alumni who are looking to make a name for themselves were recently interviewed by PVSchools. Bria Williams, Logan Christensen, and Noelle Krugman are continuing their journey of excellence by attending the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston with the dream of making music their career.

How did your time at Horizon impact your musical career?

Horizon had an incredible impact on my musical career. Being a part of the Horizon choir program not only helped me grow musically, but also as a person. It pushed me to be a hard worker, and to always put my best effort in everything I do. From the passionate choir directors— Mrs. Kluch and Mrs. Winzeler— to my hard-working fellow choir members, I was constantly surrounded by a group filled with determination and a love for what they do. This greatly inspired me to pursue growth in my musical journey. I’ve learned to always keep trying, to work with my team, and to keep on singing no matter what. Horizon choirs grew my love for music and performing, which is something I’ll take with me for the rest of my life. —Noelle

What is the greatest lesson you’ve learned as a performer?

The greatest lesson I learned as a performer was how to sing with support. —Logan

What advice do you have for current Huskies who have a dream of pursuing a musical career?

Don’t be afraid. Try out for everything and take risks because that is the only way you will grow. —Bria

How has PVSchools prepared you for your time at Berklee?

Musically, it taught me how to step out of my comfort zone and not be afraid to fail. Academically, it taught me discipline and self-motivation. —Logan

Since I entered PVSchools in 3rd grade, I have learned many lessons that I will carry with me to Berklee and beyond. I have been blessed with many opportunities within the district to perform, which not only helped to build my confidence, but gave me experiences that broadened my horizons. PVSchools also had an incredible impact on me academically as I was constantly surrounded by inspiring mentors and instructors. By providing me with a positive learning community throughout my adolescent years, PVSchools helped prepare me for my graduate years as well. —Noelle

The audition process was similar to the one I went through for choir, so I felt more prepared when it came time to audition for Berklee. —Bria

Share a funny stage moment or embarrassing blunder.

It hasn’t happened to me personally, but dancing on risers in character shoes can be challenging and many of the girls have slipped and fallen in the middle of dress rehearsal.—Bria

During one of our run-throughs of a set, the shoes I was wearing clipped the top of the riser and I fell flat on my face when walking on. Everyone around me was laughing and it completely derailed our run. —Logan

A few years ago, I was in the musical “Willy Wonka.” For one of the performances, we had a special show just for students at the nearby elementary school. The show was going well, and I went onstage to do one of my scenes. Halfway through the scene, however, I realized I had forgotten to put on my show shoes and instead was wearing my bright blue mermaid flip flops! I was so embarrassed, but it ended up being really funny and I still remember it to this day. —Noelle

What are your dreams and aspirations for after graduation?

My aspiration is to become a music teacher. Not only do I love music, but I absolutely adore children. Embracing the opportunity to work with children to introduce the power of music and help grow their passion for it is one of my biggest dreams. —Noelle

I want to create the music I want to hear in the world. I want to help other people create the music they want to hear as well. —Logan

My goal is to create a legacy through music that encourages others. Right now, I am not really sure what my dream is fully after I graduate, but I am so excited to be on the journey to discover my full potential. —Bria
