New School Letter Grades Announced

New School Letter Grades Announced

The new school letter grades are out and PVSchools is celebrating the achievement of both students and staff which led to improvements in many areas. This is the first time since 2019 that letter grades have been given out to schools in Arizona.

In total 20 schools in paradise earned an A grade this year (with ten of those schools maintaining their “A” from 2019). PVSchools had 16 total sites showing improvement. There are no D or F schools in paradise.

The work continues as students and staff reinforce areas that have been challenged by the global pandemic. Each school remains committed to improving its letter grade through hard work and academic dedication.

“As we continue to recover from the impacts of the global pandemic, seeing these improvements is encouraging. It’s proof that the schools in our district, the staff in our classrooms, and the students in our halls are working hard and achieving academically,” said Dr. Troy Bales, superintendent of Paradise Valley Unified School District.

While the district is seeing many positive trends in the data, it’s clear to staff that there is more work to do to ensure students achieve their full potential following the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. In PVSchools, however, student achievement is showing positive growth coming out of the pandemic.

School letter grades are largely based on standardized assessments providing just one measure of student achievement. Letter grades include scores with different weights for K-8 schools, high schools, and alternative schools that include growth, proficiency, English Learner (EL), and acceleration or readiness. High schools are also scored on College Career Readiness Indicators (CCRI) and graduation rates.
