Four Decades of Showstopping Success!

Four Decades of Showstopping Success!

Forty years ago, the Horizon High School choir program took center stage for the first time—launching what would become a proud tradition of musical excellence and would later transform into the musical legacy, Broadway Under the Stars. What began with a handful of students and a shared love for singing, has grown into a dynamic program that continues to inspire, connect, and bring the Horizon community together.

That legacy came to life last week as vocal music teacher, and Horizon choir alumna, Allison Kluch led a spirited dress rehearsal filled with laughter, encouragement, and undeniable talent. In preparation for opening night, students offered shoutouts to their fellow performers, praising their “star-studded power” and celebrating each other’s growth. “I couldn’t take my eyes off them,” one student announced. As castmates gathered in the Horizon auditorium, Ms. Kluch reminded the group that “a bad rehearsal means a good show,” then playfully added, “so what does a good rehearsal mean?” The students laughed, because all of their rehearsals had been en pointe! The excitement and anticipation was palpable as Ms. Kluch encouraged vocal warm-ups including talking exercises and lip buzzes, and for students to finish their morning drinks prior to costume.

The dress rehearsal was attended by students from some of the K-8 schools around the district, as well as Fox 10 News! This performance was one of the group’s last chances to practice prior to opening night, and with hits from Hamilton, Sweeney Todd, Waitress and more, the group also prepared for the musical numbers they would perform with Horizon Alumni. The group spent the weekend wowing audiences, and celebrating the hard work, teamwork and heart that makes the Horizon choirs a legacy.

While Broadway Under the Stars is always a community favorite, this year’s performances were extra special because it brought together current and former Huskies who have experienced what it feels like to be in the spotlight! And even though the times (and music) may have changed, the Horizon choir spirit—rooted in support, creativity, and community—remains stronger than ever.
