Five Ideas to Keep Your Kids Sharp Over Summer!

Five Ideas to Keep Your Kids Sharp Over Summer!

While summertime often means routines and schedules take a backseat, the 2026-27 school year will be here before you know it, and PVSchools is here to help students keep their minds sharp. Because learning shouldn't take a vacation, we've gathered five easy ways to keep kids engaged and intellectually active all summer long.

The Library Challenge: Beyond being a cool place to escape the heat, the local library is a goldmine. Set a summer reading goal or participate in a library-led summer reading program to keep literacy skills strong.

Hands-On STEM Projects: Keep curious minds busy by turning your living room into a laboratory. Simple experiments—like the balloon inflation reaction or basic robotics—can help kids understand how technology and science impact their daily lives.

Explore Creative Expression: Creativity builds critical thinking. Set up a "creative corner" at home for painting, sculpting, or mixed media projects. You can even replicate local art camp activities by focusing on color, composition, and design at home.

Learn a New Language: Summer is the perfect time to dip into a new language. Whether it’s French, Spanish, or another language, using fun apps or interactive lessons for 15–20 minutes a day can broaden your child's horizons.

Mix Learning with Movement: Staying sharp isn't just about reading; it's about engagement. Enroll in camps or local programs that combine fitness with group challenges, such as gymnastics, obstacle courses, or team sports, to keep the body active and the brain firing on all cylinders.

Whatever activities you choose, PVSchools hopes these tips help you have a safe, cool, and enriching summer.
