Addressing Transportation Challenges, Feedback Needed

Addressing Transportation Challenges, Feedback Needed

PVSchools has made great improvements to the transportation system, though ongoing challenges with district buses having late morning arrivals and delayed afternoon drop-offs continue to impact schools and district families. These delays create challenges, including having to make up lost instructional time, supervision demands for campuses, and disruptions to schedules for families. Elementary schools are disproportionately affected due to tighter supervision requirements and more structured instructional schedules.

In an effort to address these challenges, PVSchools began working with a transportation consultant, a committee of district stakeholders, and focus groups of staff, administrators, and parents to analyze transportation and bell times, develop a proposal, and consider the impact of that proposal in addressing the on-time issues that impact the entire district system.

The key recommendation from that work is to adjust school start and end times to allow buses the time needed to complete routes reliably. Bell time alignment is the lever that allows the district to make the best use of limited transportation resources while improving reliability for students, families, and schools without requiring additional staffing, increased costs, or reduced services. Reliable transportation supports instructional time, student safety, family trust, and staff sustainability.

On January 15, 2026, the committee’s proposal to change school start and end times was presented to the Governing Board for discussion. Before a final recommendation is made and presented to the Governing Board for approval on February 12, 2026, PVSchools is seeking parent and guardian feedback.

PVSchools invites all parents and guardians to participate in the feedback survey related to a possible recommendation to increase the length of the school day for elementary schools by 10 minutes. This aligns with the school day for middle schools and high schools, and is being recommended to establish bus routes that can be regularly completed on time. While the length of middle and high school days will not change, a final recommendation will include altering the start and end times for each school in the district.

If you are a current PVSchools parent or guardian, please provide your feedback on the considerations that matter most as potential bell time adjustments are considered. This feedback survey was sent to parents' and guardians' email addresses on Friday, January 16.

The survey will close on February 6, 2026.
