2025-26 FAFSA application is open!
Dear Senior Families,
The 2025-26 FAFSA application is open. For families unsure of what the FAFSA (Free Application for Financial Student Aid) is and why it is important, this will provide you with some basic information.
Arizona’s 2024-25 FAFSA completion came in 50th in the United States with only a 38.3% completion rate. As the U.S. Secretary of Education stated, this newly designed FAFSA application is hoping to offer more financial aid opportunities to students who otherwise would not qualify. So, all students who are pursuing higher education are encouraged to complete the form. As we have seen with the newly designed FAFSA form, life changes and a completed FAFSA application can open the door to grants, scholarships, and low-interest student loans.
What is the FAFSA? The Free Application for Financial Student Aid gives you access to federal grants, work-study opportunities, federal loans, and numerous state scholarships/grants.
What can you do now?
Create your FSA ID by visiting FAFSA.GOV.
- FSA ID: Both the student and their contributor need an FSA ID when accessing the FAFSA application. Remember to securely store your username and password.
- FSA ID Note: If the contributor (parent(s) have previously created an FSA ID for themselves or other children, you do not need to create a new one. Who is my contributor (parent) on the FAFSA form?
- Students: Do not use your school email address when completing your FSA ID. Instead, use or create a personal email address.
- Once submitted, the FSA ID takes approximately 3-5 days to process. Complete this step before you begin the FAFSA form in December.
- What you will need to complete the 2025-26 FAFSA form: Studentaid.gov account (FSA ID) Both student and contributors must each have their own account.
- Student social security number.
- Student and parent(s) (contributor) 2023 tax records
- Student and parent(s) (contributor) Records of assets, including any child support received, current balances of cash: cash, saving(s), and checking account(s). Plus, net worth of investments, businesses, and farms.
- Your contributor information, including full legal name, date of birth, social security number (if they have one), and email address.
- The list of schools the student will be applying to. Be mindful of financial aid and admission deadlines for specific school(s) on your list. Note: most colleges are waiting for the official FAFSA date to be confirmed before they make changes to their FAFSA deadlines.
Seniors:
- Students are also encouraged to continue completing and/or finalizing their college applications.
- In-state universities are encouraging seniors to apply early to maximize merit scholarships.
- College application workshops and/or one-on-one appointments continue to be available for students who need assistance with in-state applications and common apps.
