Thursday , March 12 , 2020
Perri Hawkins, a junior at Shadow Mountain High School, was selected from applicants across the United States as a member of the Music for All’s national Honor Orchestra of America.
Principal David Appleman, explains, “As Perri's principal, I could not be more pleased with her accomplishment. Shadow Mountain High School has an incredible tradition of excellence in the arts. It is fabulous to have Perri representing Shadow Mountain High School in the Honor Orchestra of America.”
Music for All’s Honor Orchestra of America is recognized as one of the finest scholastic ensembles in America. The ensemble rehearsed and performed in concert as part of the Music for All National Festival, presented by Yamaha, March 11-14 in Indianapolis. The conductor for the 2020 Honor Orchestra is Larry J. Livingston, chair of the Conducting Department at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music.
She joins fellow Honor Orchestra of America members from 24 states, representing 57
high schools. The Honor Orchestra of America performed in concert on March 13th with the Jazz Band of America at Butler University’s Clowes Memorial Hall, and March 14th at Butler University’s Howard L. Schrott Center for the Arts.
“Perri exemplifies the PVSchools Journey of Excellence because her achievement took hard work, dedication, and patience. Perri shared with me that she doubted herself because she hadn't made the All-State Band in the past, but she tried her best and her hard work paid off. For Perri, her Journey of Excellence led her to perform with the Honor Orchestra of America,” said Appleman.
She is a member of Shadow Mountain High School’s marching and concert bands, playing percussion and clarinet, under the direction of Natan Simon. Joshua Lynch, director of the Strings program, sponsors her participation in regional and all-state string programs.
