PVSchools Is Hiring Substitute Positions
Tuesday , December 08 , 2020
School districts across Arizona and the nation are struggling to fill much-needed substitute positions. PVSchools is actively hiring substitute teachers and staff substitutes to support instruction and other critical roles when a teacher or an hourly employee is absent.
Substitutes are essential to school districts and to a student’s education. On average, students spend 12 days of every year or approximately 144 days during 12 years of schooling, with a substitute teacher. That is about one year of education spent with a substitute teacher.
By having a pool of teaching and support staff substitutes, other staff members on campus will not have to go to an emergency sub coverage and use their planning period to teach the "unfilled" classroom or other position.
“Our substitutes are a valuable part of our PV Team and an integral part of the overall academic success of all of our students,” said Dr. Michelle Otstot, Director of Human Resources-ESP.
Substitutes have flexibility with their schedules while staying connected with children, schools, and their community and earning additional/supplement income. Substitute teachers and staff who are willing to work are in high demand, PVSchools, like school districts across the Valley, are following strict guidelines to ensure safety for staff and students during COVID-19.
Substitute Teachers
PVSchools will provide substitute teachers with online training, laptops with IT support, as well as opportunities to substitute teach in their own remote setting.
Daily Rate of Pay for Substitute Teachers
The daily substitute teacher pay is $92 per day, and long term substitute teacher (21+ days, same position) pay is $120 per day.
Requirements for Substitute Teachers
To become a certified substitute teacher, you must have the following:
- a valid Arizona Department of Education Substitute Certificate or (any valid) Teacher Certificate;
- a valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Level 1;
- IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card;
- clear a background check; and
- pass Educational Services, Inc. (ESI) requirements.
“PV is absolutely the No. 1 District. The students are wonderful, I don't know how you can get any better!," said Don Szafran, PVSchools substitute with 25 years of experience.

Additionally, PVSchools is looking to hire substitute staff positions, which are vital in supporting schools and classroom teachers.

- Administrative Assistant
