Pinnacle Girls Golf Wins First State Championship
Wednesday , November 06 , 2019
We've got our first state champions of 2019-20!
It was a comfortable win for the Pioneers in the two-day state championship tournament in Tucson: They finished with 16 fewer strokes than the Gators. Xavier Preparatory had not lost the girls state championship since 2010.
Carolyn Fuller was the top individual performer for Pinnacle: She tied for the fifth-overall best score in the tournament.
But Pinnacle's win wasn't about individual performances, according to Coach Charlie Wilde.
"Our team was a true team in an individual sport; they cheered, supported and competed with each other and for each other," Coach Wilde said. "They worked extremely hard to achieve this goal and they succeeded. I am very proud of their accomplishment!"
The Pinnacle girls team will be honored at an upcoming PVSchools Governing Board meeting.
Congrats to Coach Wilde, Athletic Director Pat Hurley, and the excellent Lady Pioneers golfers!
Update: National Championship Invite
Pinnacle Girls Golf has now been invited to represent the state of Arizona in the National High School Tournament at Pinehurst in North Carolina! The Pioneers are currently ranked 8th in the nation in scoring average. They will compete as a team in late June for a national championship.
