Neighbor Pays It Forward to Phoenix Woman Who Helps Others
Monday , November 04 , 2019
Whispering Wind Academy campus aide Debbie Bottom's selflessness is not going unnoticed.
Bottom's neighbor, Jolie Skata Panyon, reached out to CBS 5 to recognize Bottom and pay it forward.
Bottom has dealt with hardships and tragedy within her own family, but she doesn't hesitate to show kindness and support to others in need.
"When I battled breast cancer, she was the first one there with dinner after chemotherapy," Skata Panyon said. "She was there the night my mom died. She was there at the hospital the night my husband had a stroke. So she's just been there through everything, and she puts everybody first before herself."
Bottom's philosophy in how she treats others is simple.
"Little kindnesses go a long way; they really do," Bottom said. "It makes you feel good. It doesn't cost anything, but it just makes you feel like a good person. And I think we all want to feel like a good person."
So, last week, Skata Panyon and a CBS 5 news crew surprised Bottom while she was working at Whispering Wind Academy.
"You've done so much for me," Skata Panyon told her. "You never miss a birthday. It doesn't matter what you're going through, and I know that and I know that I can text you or call you in the middle of the night and you would be there."
Skata Panyon then handed her neighbor $500, as captured on camera.
"She could carry the weight of the world on her shoulders and you wouldn't even know it, because she's so giving and kind," Skata Panyon concluded.
