Monday , October 12 , 2020
Created by President John F. Kennedy in 1962, National School Lunch Week (NSLW) is a weeklong celebration of the school lunch program. The NSLW 2020 theme, “Now Playing: School Lunch,” which spotlights the hit menu items that kids love while capitalizing on the popularity of movies.
Throughout COVID-19 school closures, summer break, reopening schools virtually, and now with in-person learning, PVSchools Nutritional & Wellness Department continued to provide healthy meals to students in our community when they needed it the most. The department will be serving all students free breakfast and lunch under the Summer Food Service Program through December 31, 2020, or until otherwise determined by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). “We are very excited the USDA is allowing us this option to continue to support our families during these unprecedented times,” said Camille Soule, director of Nutrition & Wellness.
The Nutrition & Wellness Department provides nutritious meals and enhances the learning process. By fostering healthy eating habits, children are prepared and engaged in the learning process each and every day. Every school lunch includes the following options:
- 3/4 cup of vegetables
- 1 cup of 1% or fat-free milk
- 1/2 cup serving of fruit daily
- Entrées include whole grains and lean protein
Parents can help their child make healthy choices by using the district’s interactive menus, which are available for each school and are accessible on the district website. Now, with a click of a mouse or a swipe of your finger, you can:
