If Your Child is Passionate About Dance, Apply Now for the NVAA Dance Program
Monday , August 03 , 2020
If your child is passionate about movement, the North Valley Arts Academies (NVAA) Dance Program is ideal for honing skills and propelling students into the art of dance. The NVAA Dance program is still accepting applications for the 2020-21 school year.
Whether you’re a novice or an experienced dancer, students who are passionate about dance are encouraged to apply. Leanne Slater, NVAA dance instructor, explains, “Complete beginners are welcome to apply for the NVAA Dance program, as well as proficient dancers. NVAA Dance offers beginning level classes, as well as intermediate and advanced dance instruction. What makes the NVAA Dance program standout is that we are not only learning how to dance, but we're also learning about dance history, creative process tools, and how to analyze and speak about dance. All of the NVAA teachers are artists in their fields and teaching advanced concepts in each of our programs.”
The NVAA Dance program provides the essential skills and techniques to become a successful dancer. In the early years of the program, students will learn the methodology for popular dance styles such as ballet, jazz, hip-hop, and contemporary dance and learn about choreography and creativity. In later years, students will progress to advanced and complex dance techniques, production, the history of dance, and more. If you love movement, the NVAA Dance track is ideal for honing skills and propelling you to a successful dance career.
“I provide a supportive environment for my students to explore dance on a multitude of levels. From providing technique class and learning about dance history, to facilitating a place for the creative process, my students are constantly supported by their teacher and peers. I provide an opportunity for my students to reflect on their creative choices, as well as connect their experiences in dance to other subjects and life skills. Our motto in class is ‘Yes, and...’ – we support all ideas and then add to them. Ms. Marissa Reyes teaches 5th-8th grades and holds the same values as I do,” added Slater.
High school students who complete at least two years of NVAA Dance will have the opportunity to participate in a 40-hour internship and receive NVAA Honors. Students will also be eligible for the Arizona Arts Proficiency Seal on the diploma and National Honors Society in Dance Arts.
