Ellisor advances to the Arizona Spelling Bee, which will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 21st at the Arizona PBS Studios.

“I felt proud of myself and am excited to be on T.V. for the State Bee,” said Ellisor.

In all, 44 students participated in the Maricopa County Regional II Spelling Bee, which lasted 12 rounds until the winning word was spelled correctly. Ellisor’s winning word was vireo.

Ellisor added, “To prepare for the Arizona Spelling Bee, I'm going to study my list and review stems that I've learned over the past year.”

The Arizona Spelling Bee is hosted annually by the Arizona Educational Foundation. This year,  27 students from across the state will compete to determine who will represent Arizona in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

Principal Ann Furnish, explained, “We are so proud of Amara! She is an excellent student and a very sweet girl. Her teachers always share that she is such a beautiful person, inside and out. We wish Amara the very best of luck in the Arizona Bee!”

Amara has always been interested in words because she has a love for reading. In the future, she has aspirations of learning multiple languages and has already been accepted into the World Languages Academy at Desert Shadows Middle School.
