Copper Canyon 6th Grader Wins 2020 PVSchools District Spelling Bee

Collage Of 20202 PVSchools Spelling Bee Winner Plus Finalists Plus Whole Group Of Participants

After 14 competitive rounds, one student emerged to capture the title of 2020 PVSchools District Spelling Bee champion. Copper Canyon Elementary School sixth-grader Amara Ellisor won the bee Friday with the word "peacenik." The runner-up was Aishwarya Ganapathy, a fifth grader from Desert Trails Elementary School.

Six other spellers didn't go home empty handed, though: They will join Amara and Aishwarya as finalists in the Maricopa County Regional II Spelling Bee on Friday, Feb. 21, at Deer Valley Unified School District.

The six finalists from Friday's bee are:

  • Audrey Grass, 7th grade, Sunrise Middle

  • Isis Quintana, 6th grade, Cactus View Elementary

  • Grace Ameperosa, 6th grade, Hidden Hills Elementary

  • Lauren Munzinger, 7th grade, Explorer Middle

  • Justin Klotwyk, 6th grade, Desert Shadows Elementary

  • Skyyler Teegarden, 8th grade, Mountain Trail Middle

Congratulations to all the participants who represented their school so well! PVSchools is very proud of their accomplishments and thankful that we have such great staff and families who helped get these students so far. We also want to thank all family members, friends, and faculty who attended to show support to the spellers.
