Community Cares: Swimmer Competes in the Special Olympics
Monday , October 28 , 2019
Athletes from all over Arizona gathered in Goodyear for the Special Olympics state competition, and FOX 10's Anita Roman spoke with one swimmer who was among the top contenders, in this week's edition of Community Cares.
The competition featured several student-athletes from the PVSchools district, including Alyssa, who was interviewed on camera.
Alyssa's mother also offered insight into Alyssa's road to this state competition.
"We had her swim for safety issues, and then she's just continued loving it, and she ended up doing Special Olympics after that," Alyssa's mother said.
Alyssa is part of the PV Roadrunners team, which is coached by PVSchools employee Jason Flock.
"The athletes love coming out here and competing, and parents love coming to watch their athletes compete," Flock told FOX 10. "The volunteers have a good time, as well."
FOX 10 said the PV Roadrunners finished the competition this past weekend with 23 gold medals, 19 silver medals, and eight bronze medals.
