3 Pinnacle Students Accepted to ASU STARTALK Chinese Language Summer Program
Thursday , May 13 , 2021
The Arizona State University STARTALK Chinese Language Summer Program has accepted three students from Pinnacle High School for its June 12-26, 2021, session.
The three Pinnacle students who were accepted are:
- Sofia Curran
- Katy Howell
- Samantha Ma
According to PVOnline Mandarin Chinese educator Hong Shen, "This program provides a great opportunity for both heritage and non-heritage learners to explore and expand their knowledge in the Chinese language and culture through a highly structured theme- and task-based curriculum. During the program, students will receive instruction in the Chinese language and participate in fun, hands-on cultural activities. After the program, students will commit to continuing their Chinese language learning."
Shen, the current teacher of the three chosen Pinnacle students, said that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the STARTALK camp will be offered in a hybrid format with all activities and classes during the first half of the program held in-person, while the second half will be held online.
Only 30 incoming and current high school students and freshmen college students who are in Mandarin Chinese programs in Arizona have been accepted into the STARTALK Program this summer, according to Shen.
Congrats to Sofia, Katy, and Samantha!
