10 Ways to Support PVSchools

Monday , August 23 , 2021

Studies show that parental involvement has a positive impact on student academic achievement. At PVSchools, we welcome and encourage parents to be active participants in the school community. Here are 10 ways, in no particular order, to support PVSchools!

  1. Become a Volunteer In Paradise (VIP)
If you have a few hours a week to spare, you can volunteer in one of our participating schools. The award-winning VIP program actively recruits dedicated, highly qualified volunteers to tutor kindergarten through eighth-grade students in reading and math. Sign up for a VIP orientation today

  2. Attend school and district events
At the start of the school year, our schools host a curriculum information night for parents. Later in the school year, parents and students have the opportunity to attend plays and musicals, band, strings orchestra, choir performances, and sporting events.

  3. Attend Your Child’s Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent-Teacher Conferences bridge the connection between home and school. Parent-Teacher Conferences are a valuable opportunity to support your child's academic development while having an open conversation with your teacher. Parent-Teacher Conferences take place twice a year - October and January.

  4. Join the PTO/PTA/PTSA/Boosters
Parent groups bridge the relationships between school and home. Meetings are typically scheduled monthly, and parent groups support schools by raising money for school items. Parent groups often ask parents to volunteer for annual health screenings, participate in fundraisers, and assist with committees.

  5. Attend a Governing Board Meeting
The PVSchools Governing Board meets twice a month. Throughout the school year, accomplishments and awards for students and staff members are presented. Check out the schedule. Can’t make it to the meeting? Watch online at www.youtube.com/pvschools.

  6. Make a Tax Credit Contribution
Did you know that making an Arizona public education tax credit contribution is simple and is a win-win for you and our students? The Arizona tax law allows a tax credit, up to $200 per individual or $400 per married couple when filing their Arizona income tax, for contributions made or fees paid to a public school to support extracurricular activities such as high school sports and fine and performing arts. Make a tax credit contribution today!

  7. Become a Member of the United Parent Council
The United Parent Council (UPC) is a district-wide parent group that has been active for more than 40 years. UPC brings parents together from across the district to be informed, have a voice, and stand for children. Learn more about UPC

  8. Support the PV Schools Education Foundation
The PV Schools Education Foundation (PVSEF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that raises funds to support the Paradise Valley Unified School District. Tax-deductible donations made to the PSVEF support a wide variety of projects for students in PVSchools, including the PSAT, District Spelling Bee, Fine Arts Festival, STEM initiatives, and Teacher mini-grants. Donate to PVSEF today!

  9. Chaperone
Later in the school year, if the opportunity arises, students may have the option of going on field trips or educational trips in which parent chaperones help supervise on overnight trips. Find what it takes to be a chaperone.

  10. Register for the PVSchools 5K Community Run
Annually, PVSchools hosts its 5K Community Run. Registration typically opens up in mid-November, and information is posted to the PVSchools website. The tentative date for the event is Feb. 5, 2022.
