NVAA Fall Dance Concert: A New Beginning

Friday, November 22, 2019

The North Valley Arts Academies Dance Program at Shadow Mountain High School Presents:

A New Beginning

Fall Dance Concert

$10 Tickets | $5 Students | Ages 5 and Under Are Free

Under the direction of Leanne (Schmidt) Slater, students will perform original choreography ranging in styles from Contemporary to Hip-Hop dance in a one-night-only evening of dance celebrating students from the North Valley Arts Academies’ Dance Program. Through a rigorous feedback and adjudication process, select student choreographers were invited to present their work at the concert.

Slater has initiated collaborations with valley college dance programs in order to expose her students and school audiences to a variety of artistic flavor and opportunities for further study in dance beyond high school. In September, choreographer Isiah Johnson, a BA Dance Senior at Grand Canyon University, created his energetic and visually pleasing work, an angular interruption, for the North Valley Arts Academies (NVAA) Dance Company. The NVAA Dance Company students were invited to perform on the campus at GCU in the Dance Department’s Student Spotlight concert on October 16, 2019. Mr. Johnson will bring his group of 10 GCU Dance students to perform in A New Beginning. In the spring, the NVAA Dance Company will collaborate with Scottsdale Community College’s dance students.

Also on the guest artist roster is a peppy new hip-hop work by local urban dance artist, Toniqua Smith, featuring a cast of 22.

About NVAA:

The vision of The North Valley Arts Academies at PVSchools is to create a unique program within a school learning environment that focuses on empowering young people to tell their own stories, develop their creative selves, and engage the world through the arts.

The mission of The North Valley Arts Academies is to foster creative and confident artists who are committed to and passionate about the power of the arts in society.

About the NVAA Dance Program:

The North Valley Arts Academies Dance Program provides your child with the essential skills to become a well-rounded dancer. Students participate in dance styles such as ballet, jazz, hip-hop, and contemporary dance while engaging in the creative process. As the student progressed they will move into more advanced and complex dance concepts, production, history, and analysis of dance, and more. If your child possesses a love of movement, the NVAA Dance Program is ideal for honing their skills and propelling him or her into the art of dance. Applications and auditions are required for acceptance into the program.
