At Desert Shadows Elementary School, we provide quality, appropriate and rigorously challenging instruction to students by planning focused lessons using the Arizona State Standards, and prescriptive reading and writing instruction as outlined in Arizona Learns legislation and No Child Left Behind federal legislation.
The learning environments are productive and safe for children. Desert Shadows has a school-wide PBIS program in place that remains fair and consistent for all students on campus. We also strive in the educational tool to assists students in building character in the areas of responsibility, fairness, citizenship, caring, trustworthiness and respect.
Average class size is 25, and special area classes include art, P.E., Music and Art. Beginning in the fall of 2014 students now have Suzuki string lessons: all students in Preschool through 3rd grade will participate as part of their weekly curriculum. Students in 4th through 6th grade will have the opportunity to audition if they so choose. The teachers also have access to technology carts (iPads and computers) to use in their classrooms. A before school chorus program (fall) and drama program (spring) is available to interested students in the 4th through 6th grades. Students also can participate on campus through Community Education in sports club, drama, cheer, Lego® Engineering, dance & creative arts.

Students are challenged to learn and achieve through large group, small group and individual instruction. Students are cognitively engaged in learning by our teachers on a daily basis.. One hundred percent of our teachers are Highly Qualified and Appropriately Certified, over 60 percent of them have a master's degree or higher and 60 percent have been part of Desert Shadows for at least five years. Desert Shadows is more than just an elementary school; we are a community. Through education and activities for all, families are brought together throughout the school year.
