Campo Bello Elementary School, and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) (participating children), agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards.
This school-parent compact is in effect during school year 2017-18. .
REQUIRED SCHOOL-PARENT COMPACT PROVISIONS
Campo Bello Elementary School will:
Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards as follows:
- Campo Bello firmly believes in providing quality curriculum and instruction. Examples of the curriculum include the math and reading adoptions of the research-based McGraw Hill and Glencoe curriculums, and Lion’s Quest social skills for student success. These curricula are excellent materials to prepare the students for the AZ Career and College Ready Standards and Assessments. High quality instruction is ensured by training teachers in AZ standards as well as curriculum, strategies and continuation of teacher evaluations by the principals. Student achievement is everyone’s goal. The learning environment is supportive and effective because student achievement progress is continually assessed. Teachers re-teach as needed and offer student support in the form of small group instruction in the classroom. Title I teachers offer additional support in small group instruction both inside and outside of the classroom during the school day. Finally, before and after school programs offer academic support in math and reading. Enrichment classes are also offered for youth development.
- Hold parent-teacher conferences (at least annually in elementary schools) during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement. Specifically, those conferences will be held in October 2017 and January 2018.
- Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress. Specifically, the school will provide reports as follows: mid-term progress reports and quarterly reports, quarterly Title I progress reports for reading and math progress, and summer school progress reports. Student/teacher monthly goal setting is done to chart reading and math progress. These communications are in addition to on-going teacher-parent communications as needed, and daily communication via the Student Agendas and/or take home folders.
- Provide parents reasonable access to staff. Specifically, staff will be available for consultation with parents as follows: teachers and staff are always accessible by email, phone calls, or before and after school conferences by appointment. These are in addition to daily communication via the Student Agendas and/or take home folders and bi-annual conferences.
- Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to observe classroom activities, as follows: Parents and guardians are always welcome to volunteer in the classroom or to observe classroom activities if current District policies are met. School volunteer opportunities also include PTO, the Site-Based Council, and the Volunteer in Paradise program.
We, as parents, will support our children’s learning in the following ways:
- Monitoring attendance and ensuring the child is on-time.
- Making sure that homework is completed.
- Ensuring the child read aloud to a family member daily.
- Monitoring amount of television and computer time.
- Volunteering in my child’s classroom.
- Encouraging the child to demonstrate respect for school personnel, classmates, and school property.
- Reinforcing the idea that the child is responsible for his/her own behavior.
- Participating, as appropriate, in decisions relating to my child’s education.
- Promoting positive use of my child’s extracurricular time.
- Staying informed about my child’s education and communicating with the school by promptly reading all notices from the school or the school district sent by my child, by mail or by telephone, and responding as appropriate.
- Serving, to the extent possible, on policy advisory groups such as the Title I school committee, parent representative on the Site Based Council, School Support Team, PTO, School Leadership Committee, United Parent Council, or other school and district advisory or policy groups.
