Middle School Athletics
The middle-school sports program is designed to meet the needs of every middle school athlete regardless of athletic experience or ability level. All interested students have an opportunity to participate. Boys' sports include basketball, track, passing-league football and wrestling. Girls' sports include softball, track, volleyball and basketball.
Festival and All-Star intramural sports
These sports programs are open to students for a fee and physicals are not required. Each season, for each sport except track and wrestling, there is a four-week session during which coaches work with athletes on fundamentals, drills, scrimmages, rules and sportsmanship. There are no eliminations during this part of the season. All interested students are encouraged to play, even if they are new to the sport. The Festival sports season culminates in a district-wide Saturday sports festival, held at a local high school.
At the conclusion of the Festival tournament, coaches choose a team of 12 to 15 athletes to represent the school in All-Star sports. All-Star sports lasts 28 days. Every participant practices for four weeks and competes in a Saturday festival. During the four weeks of practice, a separate 7th and 8th grade All-Star team is chosen. The All-Star teams then pay a six-game schedule against the other district middle schools. Each All-star sport receives instruction from high school coaches and players one day a week.
Participation in middle school sports requires submitting permission forms and payment for each activity by the announced deadline.
