About the Special Olympics Program
The Special Olympics program provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Be a Special Olympics Athlete
Special Olympics athletes in Arizona are individuals with a passion for living life to the fullest. Special Olympics athletes learn incredible life lessons both on and off the playing fields and have a blast competing with each other. Best of all, Special Olympics sports training and competition opportunities are offered free of charge to eligible individuals wishing to join. This is possible due to the generosity of in-kind contributors and support of sponsors & donors throughout the state.
When you participate in Special Olympics sports training you will have the chance to run hard, jump hard and laugh hard. You will have opportunities to make new friends, learn new skills and discover your independence. From the moment you hit the playing field you will experience teamwork and your own unique accomplishments.
Special Olympic athletes overcome challenges and may begin training at the age of eight and they continue to compete as senior citizens. Whether you are an athlete, sponsor, volunteer, coach or fan, our goal is to ensure that everyone involved with Special Olympics has an inspirational experience.
