5th Grade

Intro to Visual Art 1

This course is focused on the exploration of tools, materials and techniques. Students will increase their awareness of the Elements of Art as they create art and look at work that has been created by other cultures from around the world. Students will demonstrate respect while responding to artwork created by their peers. Problem solving skills will be exercised as students face obstacles, challenges and decisions while working with a variety of mediums. Students will learn how to plan and develop original ideas as they express themselves through various mediums. Instruction will be given in painting, drawing, ceramics, printmaking, collage, and 3D printing.

6th Grade

Intro to Visual Art 2

This course will deepen the students’ understanding and ability to use tools, materials and techniques. Students will increase their awareness of the Elements of Art and be introduced to the Principles of Design. Students will analyze similarities and differences of artwork created by cultures from around the world and analyze how art reflects changing times, traditions, resources, and cultural uses. Students will demonstrate respect while responding to artwork created by their peers and reflect on their own performance and growth throughout the year. Problem solving skills will be exercised as students face obstacles, challenges and decisions while working with a variety of mediums. Students will learn how to plan and develop original ideas as they express themselves through various mediums. Instruction will be given in painting, drawing, ceramics, printmaking, collage, and 3D printing.

7th Grade

Exploration in 2D and 3D Media

Students will explore the Elements of Art and Principles of Design as they begin to build a portfolio. Students will demonstrate an understanding of the design process as well as exhibit the ability to be technical with their 2D and 3D projects. Mediums will include ceramics, painting, drawing, printmaking, collage, and 3D printing. Investigation of art works from a variety of artists, styles, cultures and time periods assist in the expansion of students understanding and appreciation of art. Field trips to museums and studios around our community will introduce students to the vast and exciting careers available in the field of art. Guest artists will share their skills and experiences in their area of expertise as they work with students in the classroom.

8th Grade

Exploration in Media 2

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the design process as well as exhibit the ability to be technical with their 2D and 3D projects. Mediums will include ceramics, painting, drawing, printmaking, collage, graphic design, and 3D printing. Investigation of art works from a variety of artists, styles, cultures and time periods assist in the expansion of students understanding and appreciation of art. 9th Grade

Intro to Studio

This introductory course will cultivate a strong foundation for a lasting career and love for the arts. Students will explore art history and the elements and principles of design while they experiment with a wide variety of mediums including, ceramics, painting, drawing, printmaking, graphic design, 3D printing and photography. Field trips to museums, studios, and businesses around our community will introduce students to the vast and exciting careers available in the field of art. Guest artists will share their skills and experiences in their area of expertise as they work with students in the classroom. Students will photograph their work and create a website to document their journey throughout their high school career. This portfolio will grow to be a great resource for college and internship opportunities.

10th Grade

2D Visual Art

This course will offer students the opportunity to further explore two-dimensional design. Students will refine their skills in a variety of mediums including: painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, web design, graphic design, and photography. Field trips to museums, studios, and businesses around our community will introduce students to the vast and exciting careers available in the field of art. Guest artists will share their skills and experiences in their area of expertise as they work with students in the classroom. Students will begin to build a body of work to be displayed in venues around the community as well as on their personal website.

10/11th Grade

Exploration in Sculpture

This course will concentrate on the the study of three-dimensional design and the variety of materials artists use to create sculpture. Students will have the opportunity to create in clay, wood, wire, glass, metal and 3D printing. Training with the various tools used to shape each medium will help students broaden their abilities and refine their individual styles. Problem solving and artistic development will occur as students plan, revise and reflect on their process. A deeper understanding of sculpture will be gained by analyzing 3D works from various time periods and cultures. Field trips to museums, studios, and businesses around our community will introduce students to the vast and exciting careers available in the field of art. Guest artists will share their skills and experiences in their area of expertise as they work with students in the classroom. Students will photograph their work and create a website to document their journey throughout their high school career. This portfolio will grow to be a great resource for college and internship opportunities.

11th Grade

Advanced 2D Visual Art (Commencing 2019-20)

This advanced course is designed for self-motivated and dedicated students who want to create a unified body of 2D work. Areas of study may include painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, web design, graphic design, or photography. The artist will use their studio time to refine their personal style and create an artist statement for exhibitions of their artwork. An artist website and digital portfolio will be created and grow to be a big resource for college and internship opportunities. Students will learn how to market their artwork and apply for a multitude of opportunities available in the community. Field trips to museums, studios, and businesses around our community will introduce students to the vast and exciting careers available in the field of art. Guest artists will share their skills and experiences in their area of expertise as they work with students in the classroom.

NVAA Advanced Sculpture Techniques (Commencing 2019-20)

Students will further explore the concepts of sculpture as they create 3D works of art with clay, wood, wire, glass, metal and 3D printing. This course is dedicated to building upon the students established foundation of knowledge and skill as it pertains to tools, materials and processes. Students will begin to narrow their scope with the goal of creating a unified body of work. An artist website and digital portfolio will be created and grow to be a big resource for college and internship opportunities. Students will learn how to market their artwork and apply for a multitude of opportunities available in the community. Field trips to museums, studios, and businesses around our community will introduce students to the vast and exciting careers available in the field of art. Guest artists will share their skills and experiences in their area of expertise as they work with students in the classroom.

12th Grade

NVAA Exit Portfolio in 2D Visual Arts (Commencing 2020-21)

This advanced course is designed for self-motivated and dedicated students who want to create a unified body of work. The artist will use their studio time to refine their personal style and create an artist statement for exhibitions of their work. An artist website and digital portfolio will be created and grow to be a big resource for college and internship opportunities. Students will learn how to market their artwork and apply for a multitude of opportunities available in the community. Field trips to museums, studios, and businesses around our community will introduce students to the vast and exciting careers available in the field of art. Guest artists will share their skills and experiences in their area of expertise as they work with students in the classroom. The focus and objective of the exit portfolio shows the artist has explored a theme with multiple pieces and the student has focused a majority of the artwork from one medium: painting, drawing, printmaking, graphic design, photographic processes.
