Paradise Valley Unified School District is dedicated to providing each student the opportunity to maximize their learning potential by supporting a safe and healthy school environment. Continued reinforcement of health and nutrition education provides the foundation for students to gain the critical skills needed to adopt, practice, and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
The Wellness Guidelines will serve as the foundation for each school in the Paradise Unified School District to develop, implement, and evaluate health, physical, and other school-based activities that promote student wellness. The goal is to confirm each school administrator monitors/assesses their school for appropriate wellness compliance.
The District Wellness Committee is open to the public and meets twice a year (Fall & Spring) to discuss wellness-related activities or reports. Committee members comprise of parents, community partners, students, representatives of nutrition services, physical education professionals, health services, and school administrators.

School level assessments (Principal surveys) are conducted annually to monitor progress in attaining the specific goals posted in the Wellness Guidelines. The 2018-2019 principal survey was assessed four key areas. The key areas were Nutrition Education & Physical Activity Promotion, Food and Beverage Marketing, School Leadership Authority, and Other School Based Activities.
On November 13th, 2018, the Nutrition & Wellness Department participated in a community health fair held at Palomino Primary School. This "Kick Off to Healthy Living" health fair was organized by the district's Family Services Coordinator, Elizabeth Stein. Along with valuable information, there were also vegetable steamers, measuring cups for cooking, first aid kits, and fresh bananas available for participants to take home to their families. It was a great opportunity for the Nutrition & Wellness team to work with the community and promote healthy habits!
