North Canyon High School

Principal's message

Welcome to North Canyon, an A+ School of Excellence!

I could not be more proud of our school. 2015 marks my fifth year as principal, and I taught English and was a counselor at North Canyon in the 1990’s. I have some great memories of this school from that time, and being asked to return as principal truly felt like “coming home.” What makes North Canyon special? Our diverse student body and diverse programs make us unique.

In 2013, we adopted a new mission statement, “North Canyon empowers students to care, learn, and succeed, ensuring college and career readiness"; short but very powerful. Our school has a PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) program. Students developed our school wide expectations. “Show your Rattler Pride – Be responsible, be accountable, take initiative, and be respectful.” We continually reinforce positive examples of these practices, throughout all programs - academic or extracurricular - at North Canyon.
In February 2014, we became an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) National Demonstration school, an incredible honor given to only a select few in the country.
In May 2015, we were recognized as an "A+ School of Excellence" by the Arizona Education Foundation.
In January 2016, we achieved a Gold Designation Award with the Beats the Odds Institute

We seek to meet the needs of all of our students. We have some special programs. The International Baccalaureate Program (IB) is one of our Signature Programs.
Next school year (2016-2017) we will begin a Sports Medicine Signature Program.  North Canyon is one of the few schools in Arizona with its own scholarship program – North Canyon Area Dollars for Scholars. We were the first high school in PVUSD to have a Unified P.E. program. We have thriving and stellar Arts, and Career/Technical Education programs.  Our Business Advisory Board, comprised of students and local business leaders, strengthens the school-to-work connection. We have a Preschool and a Teacher Academy.  Students can earn college credits through Advanced Placement courses, Early College with PVCC and Dual Enrollment with Rio Salado. We have courses at all levels to engage our students. We have a wide range of Sports and Clubs.

Thank you for being part of our Rattler family.

We’re truly glad you are!
