Paradise Valley Unified School District is pleased to announce the opening of a Gifted Preschool Program for 4-year old children who are identified as gifted.

This unique, tuition-based program is open to gifted preschool students throughout the Valley.
The program will be offered at two schools:

  • Desert Cove Elementary School provides a full-day option.
  • Fireside Elementary School (opening Fall 2012)
    provides a half-day option.
  • Teachers are Early Childhood Certified and hold a Gifted Endorsement.
  • Maximum class size of 20 students to one teacher and one teacher’s aide.
  • The Gifted Preschool will follow the PVschools district calendar.
  • Both schools offer full-time gifted programs for students in grades K-6.
  • Transportation is not provided.
Both the full-day and half-day options feature:
  • Emphasis on critical and creative thinking

  • Enrichment

The Gifted Preschool at Desert Cove Elementary School

  • Conveniently located off the 51 & Shea, 11020 N. 28th St. - Phoenix
  • Hours: 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
  • Before- and after-school childcare offered (PAC & Mascot Cougar Club)
  • Site of the PVschools Self-contained Gifted Program (Gr. 1 - 6)

The Gifted Preschool at Fireside Elementary School (opening Fall 2012)

  • Conveniently located off the 101 & Tatum near Desert Ridge Mall, 3725 E.
    Lone Cactus Dr.
  • Half day session offered: 8:30 a.m. – 11 a.m.

Admittance into the Gifted Preschool Program is a three-part process:

  1. Gifted testing to qualify for program application.
  2. Application submission to the PVschools Gifted Office*.
  3. Registration and registration f payment to PVschools Community Education.

Students must have reached their fourth birthday to be eligible for registration. Students must be identified as gifted on an IQ test. Parents may seek private testing or may schedule testing in the PV District by calling 602-449-2095.

*Approved Gifted Preschool Program application and registration fee are required for Gifted Preschool registration

Gifted Testing

Parents are welcome to seek private IQ testing with a psychologist. Please call our office at 602-449-2113 for information on the type of testing required for admittance into the program.

IQ testing with a PVUSD School Psychologist can be scheduled by calling 602-449-2095. Testing will take place during Spring Break, in June, and on selected days after school hours. The testing fee of $175. is required two weeks prior to the scheduled testing. Students must qualify as gifted by obtaining a score of 95% or above in Verbal, Nonverbal, and/or Quantitative area(s).* Students who do not qualify as gifted may register for one of PVUSD’s other preschool programs.


* Students with scores of 95 - 96 on an intelligence test qualify for the Gifted Preschool but will need to be retested for consideration of placement into the district's gifted education programs in the elementary grades.

Tuition — per school year

  • Full-day program — $7,600
  • Half-day program — $3,800
  • Paid in ten monthly installments
