At the high school level, honors and advanced-level courses are available at all schools providing a more rigorous curriculum and higher expectations for student performance. Please check the individual school sites for the specific courses and programs provided at the schools.

Special Offering: Mandarin Chinese
Mandarin 1-2
This course introduces students to basic conversational Chinese. The course meets the world language standards for communication, culture, connections and community and promotes proficiency in three modes: interpretive (understanding spoken language and written texts), interpersonal (communicating with others), and presentational (preparing and delivering spoken or written content). The curriculum includes thematic units and guided interactions with native speakers. There is emphasis on pronunciation, sentence pattern analysis, and the development of language skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Character reading and writing are introduced. After completion of the course, students will be able to:
- Converse in Mandarin on subject matters covered in the course
- Accurately pronounce and distinguish all Mandarin vowels, consonants, and tones in all syllables
- Produce and use grammatical patterns introduced in the course
- Read short passes written in Pinyin or in Chinese characters
- Recognize about 200 Chinese characters
This course is highly interactive and incorporates multi-media through a variety of delivery methods, including online, telepresence, and face to face instruction.
