Technology tools currently in practice
Every classroom at DTES is equipped with a Smart Board; an interactive, electronic whiteboard which enhances student engagement, instruction and learning. The SMART Notebook software makes it possible for teachers to create content rich, dynamic lessons which address specific student skills.
The Class Participation System, or “clicker”, is being tested in two of our DTES classrooms this school year. This handheld gadget looks and works like a remote control. Each student has one and uses it to respond to classroom polls and quizzes independently. Using a special receiver attached to his/her laptop, the teacher is able to gather these student responses, display them for instant feedback and class discussion, and then adjust the curriculum appropriately.
This highly interactive technology tool allows full classroom participation at a maximum level of engagement.
At DTES, each grade level has a digital camera and a digital camcorder. Each teacher also has his/her own memory card. In the classroom our students regularly see and participate in podcasting, iMovies, and digital storytelling. Desert Trails’ unique, ground-breaking partnership with iTUNES allows our staff and student to soar to new heights in technology. Our focus is to equip our students today with technology tools for tomorrow.
