FAQs

What is Open Enrollment?
The Arizona School Improvement Act of 1994 (amended in 1995) mandates that public schools provide open enrollment opportunities throughout Arizona.

Open enrollment enables Arizona students to attend public elementary schools (grades K-8) or high schools (grades 9-12) outside their attendance areas or their districts in an effort to give them a choice in school selection.

When can I apply for Open Enrollment?
As of October 3, at 8:30 a.m., parents are invited to pick up Open Enrollment applications (for the next school year) at the PVschools Administrative Center reception area, 15002 N. 32nd Street, Phoenix. Parents may also download an application from the district website beginning Monday, October 3.

Is there a deadline to apply for the next school year?
Applications are due by January 20, 2012. (After March 1st, out-of-district parents may submit open enrollment applications to the principal of the school they wish their child(ren) to attend if they missed the OE period.  Principals will then notify parents of approval/denial or of waiting list status as soon as they are able to determine space availability.)

Do all PVschools schools/programs participate?
Only schools/programs determined to have capacity for more students will participate in open enrollment.

My child is currently attending a PVschools school under open enrollment. Do I need to reapply?
Students currently attending under open enrollment do not need to reapply, but open enrolled students moving on to middle- or high-school must reapply for their desired middle- or high-school. Applications for siblings of students currently participating in open enrollment must be submitted for consideration, but will receive priority status in the process.

Once I have submitted the application, when will I be notified of my child's status?
Parents will receive notification by mail of approval or denial of their open enrollment applications in the spring. Open enrollment status is not determined on a first come, first-served basis. Everyone applying during the two-month period has the same opportunity for acceptance.

Is bus transportation provided for open-enrolled students?
Transportation for open enrolled students is the responsibility of the parents.
