 SPECIAL EDUCATION ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY TECHNICIAN (Formerly Assistive Technology Technician)

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.        High School Diploma or GED.

2.        Knowledge of a variety of communication and computer access systems, simple adaptations and switches.

3.        Knowledge of construction or repairing simple Assistive Technology equipment.

4.        Basic understanding of computer assembly and operations.

5.        Knowledge of Macintosh operations and it’s application programs.

6.        Knowledge of PC/IBM operations and it’s application programs.

7.        Experience in training of staff on computers, software, scanner and digital camera.

8.        Experience in training of staff on specialized special education software programs.

9.        Have car to travel from school to school.

10.     Excellent communication skills.

11.     Experience working in a special educational environment.

REPORTS TO:              Program Specialist

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1.        Maintain, organize, label and log in inventory for the assitive technology loan libraries, Related Service staff equipment and preschools.

2.        Check in and check out equipment from loan library using proper procedures and paperwork.

3.        Pick up donated computer equipment, assemble and test. Complete appropriate paperwork.

4.        Deliver, set up and train persons on computer, software and other technology devices, for a variety of programs/classrooms.

5.        Provide phone support and act as a resource to train education staff.

6.        Prepare or assist with the preparation of materials for use in specific instructional programs.

7.        Install, train and manage installation/removal of Boardmaker software sites and Intellitools.

8.        Construct and repair simple switches, low tech communication devices and battery interrupters.

9.        Troubleshoot (return merchandise, minor repair, solve problems) with vendors, regarding equipment in loan libraries or at school sites.

10.     Handle all transfer or disposal of equipment and paperwork with property control.

11.     Establish and maintain good communication with district personnel, staff, and students.

12.     Keep abreast of computer knowledge to act as a resource to the assistive technology resource center.

13.     Other job-related duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine, ten or twelve-month year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
