QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or
GED.
- Knowledge of,
experience with and ability to work with special needs students preferred.
- Current CPR and First
Aid Certification or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of
hire. (district to provide training)
- Effective communication
skills
NOTE:
- This is an interim
position.
- The aide will be
expected to follow their student (i.e., elementary to middle, middle to
high school).
- If a surplus situation
occurs (i.e., student withdraws from district, doesn’t need continued services,
etc.) the aide will be reassigned to a vacant position within the
district.

REPORTS
TO: Teacher/Site Administrator
ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Establish and maintain
positive rapport with students, employees and community.
- Bus duty (e.g.,
assisting driver and students with adaptive equipment and monitoring
physical welfare of students).
- Accommodate the needs
of students and/or an individual student.
- Supervise playground
and lunchroom.
- Record attendance,
maintain records and other clerical tasks.
- Assist students with
eating, personal hygiene (may include diaper changing), and toileting.
- Set up and maintain
special classroom equipment and learning centers.
- Assist students in
transferring the student from wheelchair to various activities (may
involve heavy lifting).
- Assist the teacher in
observing, recording and charting behavior.
- Implement behavioral
management strategies using the same emphasis and techniques as the
teacher.
- Assist the teacher with
crisis problems and discipline.
- Assist with the
preparation of materials for use in the classroom.
- Document care delivered
to student(s).
- Other job-related
duties as assigned.
TERMS
OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine, ten, or twelve-month year. Salary and work year to be established by the
Board.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in
accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support
Services Personnel.
