PARA EDUCATOR – NCLB CLASSROOM AIDE

(formerly Instructional Aide/Resource, ESL, K-3, Classroom (in lieu of  teacher), Integration, Job Coach, Sign Language, Work Experience)

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.                  Have a high school diploma or it’s equivalent AND

·      An Associate’s degree or 48-60 credit hours from an accredited college/university (the equivalent of two {2} years of full-time study) OR

·      Passing score on the Para Pro Assessment or PVUSD/NCLB approved assessment

2.                  Effective communication skills

3.                  Current CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire (training provided by district)

 

PREFERRED

1.                  Knowledge of, experience with and ability to work with special needs students

2.                  Knowledge of and experience with ELL students/strategies

3.                  Knowledge of and experience with K-3 students/strategies

4.                  Basic computer knowledge

 

GRADE:         11

 

REPORTS TO:          Site Administrator

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1.                  Establish and maintain positive rapport with students, employees and community.

2.                  Supervise and accommodate needs and safety of students.

3.                  Work as an active participant in collaborative team model; attend team meetings, IEP meetings, in-services and other trainings as requested by teacher or administrative staff, as needed.

4.                  Assist teacher in implementation of behavioral management strategies, instructional objectives, and student IEP goals, or SEI goals as needed.

5.                  Instruct individual students and/or groups of students using instructional objectives and lessons developed by the classroom teacher.

6.                  Document care delivered to the student(s).

7.                  Other job-related duties as assigned.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Nine, ten, or twelve-month year.  Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

 

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
