PARA EDUCATOR – NCLB SPECIAL NEEDS

(Formerly Instructional Aide/M.H., E.D., S.E.H., C.D, M.I.M.R., M.O.M.R., S.C. Extended School Year)

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.                  Have a high school diploma or it’s equivalent AND

·      An Associate’s degree or 48-60 credit hours from an accredited college/university (the equivalent of two {2} years of full-time study) OR

·      Passing score on the Para Pro Assessment or PVUSD/NCLB approved assessment

2.                  Current CPR and First Aid Certification or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire. (training provided by district)

3.                  Effective communication skills.

 

PREFERRED:

1.                  Previous experience working with special needs students

2.                  Basic computer knowledge

3.                  Arizona Driver’s License

 

GRADE:         11

 

REPORTS TO:          Site Administrator

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1.                  Establish and maintain positive rapport with students, employees and community.

2.                  Assist the teacher in the delivery of classroom management and instructional objectives, implementation of individual student behavior/treatment plans and IEP goals.

3.                  Utilize appropriate physical interventions/therapeutic approaches when necessary.

4.                  Supervise and monitor students during the AM/PM, lunch period, recess time and between classrooms.

5.                  Attend and assist on field trips and transporting of students if needed.

6.                  Work as an active participant in collaborative team model, attend team meetings, in-services and other trainings as requested by teacher or administrative staff.

7.                  Document care delivered to student(s).

8.                  Other job-related duties as assigned.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Nine, ten, or twelve-month year.  Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

 

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
