PARA EDUCATOR - ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.                    High School Diploma or GED.

2.                    Knowledge of, experience with and ability to work with special needs students.

3.                    Have car to travel from school to school.

4.                    Knowledge of a variety of communication and computer access systems, simple adaptations and switches.

5.                    Knowledge of constructing/repairing simple switches and battery interrupters and other miscellaneous adaptations.

6.                    Basic understanding of simple computer assembly and operations.

7.                    Effective communication skills.

GRADE: 9

REPORTS TO:    Program Specialist

SUPERVISES:     N/A

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

  1. Establish and maintain positive rapport with students, employees and community.
  2. Accommodate the needs of students.
  3. Record attendance, maintain records, and other clerical tasks.
  4. Assist students with eating, personal hygene, and toileting (may include diaper change).
  5. Set up, inventory and maintain special classroom equipment, technology, and learning centers.
  6. Instruct individual students using instructional objectives and lessons developed by the building planning team.
  7. Assist students in transfers from wheelchair to various activities (may involve heavy lifting).
  8. Assist teacher in transferring the student from wheelchair to various activities (may involve heavy lifting).
  9. Instruct classroom staff on the basic use of special equipment.
  10. Other job related duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine, ten or twelve-month year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
