QUALIFICATIONS:
The general
responsibilities of the tutor are to provide intensive & extensive tutorial
services for the middle school & high school students. The tutor, in order to assist the
student in his/her education endeavors, will work closely with the AVID
elective teacher.
RATE OF
PAY: $10.00 per hour
REPORTS TO: AVID Elective
Teacher
ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS:
1.
Provide
academic assistance to assigned students, either in a group or individually
2.
Establish
liaison with the teacher and work under the teacher's direction, if necessary
to assist the student
3.
Attend
periodic training sessions given by AVID staff members to increase competency
in working with students
4.
Be
responsible for maintaining records on each student being tutored, including
follow-up & periodic assessment
5.
Provide
evaluations and other reports as requested by the AVID staff
6.
Help
students develop positive attitudes toward learning and studying
7.
Help
students develop self-confidence, raise self-concept, and reduce anxiety or
fear of failure in academic work
8.
Help
students develop a high level of motivation in academic areas
9.
Assist
students in achieving a better understanding of specific subject material and
in improving academic capabilities in designated areas
10.
Help
students develop the study skills necessary for academic success
11.
Establish
and maintain rapport with the assigned student(s)
12.
Serve
as a role model for students being served
13.
Assist
in designing and implementing class cooperative projects
14.
Other
job-related duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine, ten or twelve-month year. Salary and work year to be established
by the Board.
EVALUATION: Performance of
this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the BoardÕs policy
on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
